The 23rd Hainan International Tourism Island Carnival: The 5th China – ASEAN University Students' Culture Week

To promote exchange of the arts and culture among university students of China, the ASEAN countries, as well as countries along the Belt and Road, Japan and South Korea, and build a platform for friendship and communication among young people from all countries, the 5th China - ASEAN University Students’ Culture Week, one of the major events of the 23rd Hainan International Tourism Island Carnival, will be held in December 2022. The Culture Week, organized by Haikou University of Economics, is under the government guidance of ASEAN-China Centre and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports of Hainan Province, and supported by Haikou Foreign Affairs Office and Haikou People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. The event aims to inspire students' content creativity in the multicultural background, help train outstanding personnel, promote Chinese culture, and establish Hainan's international image of inclusiveness and openness.

        The Culture Week consists of three sections, the Students’ Short Film Contest, the International Photography Exhibition and the Gala Performance & Award Ceremony. University students from China, the ten ASEAN countries, countries along the Belt and Road, as well as Japan, Korea and other countries are invited. These three activities are carried out by TVZONE Academy of Media and Communication and the ASEAN Studies Institute of Haikou University of Economics. The panel of judges has a strong lineup. The organizing committee and jury members of the Short Film Contest include Mr. Leng Song, Secretary General, World Media Research Centre, China Academy of Social Sciences, Mr. He Chao, Secretary General, Programme Exchange Committee, China Broadcast, Film and Television Organization Federation, Dr. Ekky Imanjaya, Professor of Film Academy, Bina Nusantara University, Indonesia, Prof. Yong Hwan Lee, Dean of Photography Faculty, Chung-Ang University, Korea, Mr. Bian Huibin, Chairman of the Chinese Opera Society, Singapore, Mr. Tang Ji-an, General Supervisor, Hunan Television International Channel and Mr. Xue Deng, Vice Chairman of Hainan Film and Television Workers’ Association.

The name of the award is set as Green Coconut. The winners will be granted trophies, certificates and prize in cash. The awards are: Special Green Coconut Award, Best Short Film Award, Best Director Award, Best Photographic Award, Best Popular Award, Outstanding Short Film Award, Outstanding Director Award and Outstanding Photographic Award.

The Gala Performance and Award Ceremony will be held on 1st December at the Grand Theatre of Haikou University of Economics. Leaders from related government organization and as well as some judges and winners are present in the evening.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the collection and jury work of the contest is conducted online, except for the Gala Performance and Award Ceremony.
